New York City’s #1 PRK Eye Surgeons

Have you been struggling with your vision? Do you want to no longer have to rely on glasses or contacts when trying to do tasks like reading, or driving? Photorefractive keratectomy, (more commonly referred to as PRK) is a very common laser-assisted eye surgery used to help treat and correct nearsightedness, astigmatism, and farsightedness. PRK has been around for over 30 years and although LASIK has become the go-to for vision correction procedures, ophthalmologists still are recommending and using PRK for patients that might not qualify for LASIK or as an option for vision correction surgery. When it comes to your vision you shouldn’t trust just anyone to do this surgery for you. You should rely on an eye surgeon who has a proven track record of success, it is why if you are looking for the best PRK surgeon in New York City, then you should look no further than Dello Russo Laser Vision.

How The Procedure Works?

When undergoing a PRK procedure may be similar to that of LASIK it does have some differences. The first thing that your ophthalmologist will do is instead of creating a thin flap on the cornea to be lifted which allows for your ophthalmologist to reshape your eye, the top piece will simply be removed. This still allows for access to the eye so they can reshape and help correct the vision of your eye, it is also not replaced but it is left to heal on its own. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes or less depending on the prescription and the type of errors your surgeon has to correct.

After the procedure, it is important you have someone available to drive you home since it will take some time for your vision to return.

How Long Is The Recovery Process?

Recovery from a PRK procedure tends to take a longer time than LASIK. It is because your cornea has to regrow cells that were removed, and it takes time for your vision to fully stabilize, and this can vary from patient to patient.  Some patients have reported stable vision after a month, while some have said they have seen the results after six months. Most have come to find that anywhere between three to six months for recovery is normal.

It is why at Dello Russo Laser Vision we offer consultation and aftercare services following your surgery to make sure that you are receiving the best possible care, and getting all of your questions answered before and following your PRK procedure.
